Second win in Suffolk Cup

Following YM's 0-12 win at Colchester last month, we were on our travels again to Bury in this four-game round robin cup.

YM played the first half with the benefit of the slope on Bury's Thirds pitch and it was five minutes into the match when Ollie scored YM's first try in the far right corner. Ten minutes later a near-identical try was again scored by Ollie. A further try, this time by Roman gave YM a 0-17 lead at half time.

The thirds pitch at Bury is deceptively sloped and as the second half started there was some concern if YM had built up enough of a lead to survive the expected barrage from a well drilled and disciplined Bury side. Connor going over the line shortly after the re-start settled these nerves. Ollie scored his third try and in the closing minutes Blake went over to make the score 0-34. Tom was on kicking duties. With most tries scored on the wing and a reasonable wind up every kick was a big ask and it was no small feat to get the two conversions he achieved.

The forwards scrummaged very effectively and it was particularly good to see the backs moving the ball the whole width of the pitch and back again to stretch Bury's defence for the final try.

Overall a good day for the YM who played some rugby which was enjoyable to watch. Our thanks to Bury for a competitive game and being good post-match hosts.
