Finishing the league campaign with a victory

The sun was out and brought with it a large away crowd to watch the YM Hawks take on Ipswich fourths at Humber Doucy Lane.

It didn’t take long for the away crowd to start cheering when after 5 minutes Colby Hack scored the opening try, which was converted by James Taber.

Ipswich were straight back in it piling on the pressure and scoring after bringing the score back to 5-7. Ipswich pressed again soon after and if it wasn’t for some great tackling from Ed Parkin could have taken the lead.

From a scrum in the YM’s 22 the ball was shipped to Ed who ran 2/3rds the length of the field passed a number of defenders to score in the corner, a great reward for the previous try saving tackle. Tabor converted 5-14.

Ipswich pounced on a YM defensive error to bring them back into the game with a try near the posts which was converted which put the home team just two points behind.

The try fest continued when after a scrappy line out YM’s Nathan Richards ran a great curved line into contact. Connor McGlaughlan gathered the ball and sprints through to score the try, Taber converts to give the visitors a 9 point lead at half time 12-21.

The second half started with Ipswich kicking to the YM. The ball is caught by Ollie Smith who runs a nice midfield run to pass to McGlaughlan who charges through to score his second try. Score now 12-26.

Ipswich fought back again and after a while being camped in the YM’s 22 they again scored but missed the conversion 17-26.

The hard fought match continued with another score from the YM’s John Harvey which was then counter acted by Ipswich getting the last try of the game.

A great game to watch with a total of 9 tries – full time score Ipswich 22 – 33 YM.
