True to a reoccurring theme for the Hawks this season, they once again found themselves short of players for their final league game against Clacton.
A possible ten had dwindled down to an actual eight but fortunately Clacton were willing to lend YM seven of their players to cover the shortfall.
Clacton opened the scoring and had the majority of the territory in the opening 15 minutes before YM's scratch team started to pull together with the encouragement and leadership of Johnny Godzicz.
Subsequently, YM scored an unconverted try which boosted the team’s confidence and provided hope that the game wasn’t running away from them.
Half time score: 17:5
Unfortunately Ivan wright had to retire at half time and was replaced by another Clacton player. YM continued to play the game with more Clacton players than YM ones!
However, YM started the second half brightly and scored two unanswered tries during the opening 10 minutes and the possibility of turning the game around looked very possible.
Unfortunately this wasn't to be and Clacton's pacey backs took advantage of an understandably uncoordinated but nevertheless fully committed YM defence.
Possession-wise YM were always in the game but unfortunately this wasn't reflected on the score board as YM struggled to recover whenever Clacton broke the line.
The final score of 52-17 doesn’t truly reflect the balance of play in the game and YM came away feeling proud of the performance that they had displayed.
Thanks to our hosts Clacton for providing YM with a large number of players who were all up for playing a game of rugby.
