YM started brightly against Lowestoft & Yarmouth (L&Y) and the interchange between the players didn't suggest that this was the first pre-season match after a long break.
They were able to easily boss the scrum around for the first 15 minutes and made yards with ball in hand whenever possible. This domination enabled Liam Lacey to score two well worked tries.
For the closing 20 minutes of the first half, L&Y started to get their game together and YM were forced to defend deeply. However the defense held firm and couldn't be breached. L&Y had to resort to kicking penalties to put points on the score board.
In the second half, YM started to reestablish themselves in the game and open up a considerable points margin with a Liam completing his hat-trick and tries from Kieran Rudland and Ryan Wood.
There were many positives to be taken from the game and the hard work done during the close season orchestrated by Ben Hockley was evident in how well the team had gelled together. With fresh ideas from our new coach, YM are showing signs that this season could be a very good one for them.
Finally, thanks to Lowestoft & Yarmouth for hosting YM and playing the game in the right spirit.
