Remembrance Sunday Fixture at Sudbury
By John Reynolds
Great morning over at Sudbury
A great morning workout over at Sudbury today that saw us play five, win three, draw one and lose one. Thank you to Sudbury for putting on both the games and the Remembrance Service which was very special for all our boys to be part of.
We mixed things up this morning and played mixed ability sides against two Sudbury sides who put on a great show but by the end of the morning were all in given that they had the bare bones of two sides only due to outside influences.
The boys worked hard and played well in large phases of the games which were played in the right spirit. As a coaching team we again tried to give everybody game time which isn't always easy when you have 34 players and you are playing 8 a side 8 minutes each way rugby. That said it was good to see the boys in a setting they aren't so familiar with and some of them rose to the occasion and showed their skills.
Some stand out moments from this morning.
The impeccable 2 minutes silence observed by all the under 10 squad and the knowledge they showed as a group in the Q&A before the ceremony about why we have Remembrance Sunday and why we remember the fallen.
Victor Tocca's display today. You've raised your own personal bar Victor. Keep it up.
Bill Moffat's roll and straight line running and try.
Toby Bourne's two tries (one in a Sudbury shirt). Great wheels Toby.
Seth Midwood's display at fullback. Proper awareness of what was going on around you enough so to hold your position and also deliver some great probing runs with tries on the end of them.
Aston Satchwith-Clarke's positive forward running and great tackling.
Finlay Mitchell's bursting run through two tackles and try in the corner. You've turned into a warrior Finlay, keep it up.
Ollie Saddleton's positive forward running and excellent work around the breakdown.
Xavi Baker-Woods rucking and natural aggression.
Rory Hollis's tackling. Different class Rory, well done.
Charlie Read's work at the breakdown. Good distribution Charlie and nice to have you back after injury.
Star Player : Victor Tocca
Emphasis on training is changing and we are stepping up the pressure on the whole squad moving forward. Tackling is fundamental to the game that we are playing and we need to deliver as a group and as individuals. As a result starting teams moving forward will reflect individual ability to consistently do so.
