Despite playing the whole game with 14 men

Due to some unavoidable drop outs, YM Hawks travelled to Thurston with only 14 fit players.
But rather than taking the easy option of asking to borrow a player, Captain Jon Meredith had confidence in his team so elected to play the game with just 14 players.

This confidence looked to be misplaced however when Thurston scored within three minutes of the kick off and duly converted the score. 7:0
But YM weren’t disheartened by this and they had a period of good possession which resulted in a try scored by Alex Wold 20 minutes into the game. 7:5

The game was real end-to-end play and Thurston came back with a try of their own to bring the score to 12:5.

Jon Harvey was fresh back from uni and was showing that a season of American football hadn't dulled his rugby instincts. He scored two tries in quick succession to take YM into the lead at half time with the score at 12:15.

Soon after the restart, Thurston scored again to make the score 17:15 but Fabio Whanon broke through the defensive line to score which Jon Harvey converted. 17:22

By now YM had the majority of the possession and their stamina was being proved in the forwards as they were equal to Thurston’s scrum despite only having a 7 man pack.

John Harvey scored again to gain his MotM hat-trick and to provide a two score buffer only for Thurston to score again two minutes later. 22:27.

In the last 5 minutes Eric Ransom restored the margin to leave YM the winners with a score of 22:32.

It was a great game of rugby to watch and credit to YM's organisation as they never looked stretched in defence even though they were a man down.
Fortunately the injuries that YM encountered weren't too serious and thanks to Thurston's medic for patching Alex Wold's head up.

Finally, thanks to Thurston for a great game and for hosting YM. The food there is always a bit special and this time they surpassed themselves with Sausage and Chips from the local chippy!
