A fiery local derby and ultimate loss brought the Hawks season to a close on a warm spring day with the team losing 12-16 to their closest geographical rivals Ipswich 3s.
Having come second to Ipswich in their conference and having lost both games in the league the Hawks came out with a point to prove. They had the better of the early exchanges and after winger Owen Steward was dangerously tackled near the Ipswich line.
A tap penalty from YM and quick thinking from Simon Arnold saw him pass to Skipper Jonny Godzicz who powered over for the first try of the game. It left a difficult conversion for Max Taylor who missed after kicking into the wind.
Ipswich broke and scored a try just before Half Time, missing the resulting conversion. A second half of ill discipline saw the YM play the majority of the second half with 14 men after 3 back-to-back yellow cards.
Skipper Godzicz, Scrum Half Arnold, and eventual man of the match Tyler Baumgartel all being sent to the bin, Ipswich still struggled to break down the YM line and instead of going for the line they went for the sticks to score two penalties.
YMs resilience was eventually broken down after Ipswich managed to go wide and around the YM defense, scoring their final try making it 5-16 .
Still sensing a chance to bring back the win, YM managed to build pressure and Godzicz managed to finally get over for YMs second try with Taylor managing to convert.
However this was too little too late as the Ref called time afterwards, bringing the end to the Hawks Season.
The Hawks would like to say thanks to Ipswich for providing an entertaining game and for all the support provided, getting a well-attended pre-match meal with little notice and a large crowd for the game gave the Hawks that extra edge.
