On a bright Spring afternoon, the YM 1st team and their supporters were keenly awaiting the contest against the North Walsham side who they’d defeated two weeks previously.
Once again the YM’s powerful pack dominated the opposing eight, while their back division worked hard to contain the visitors’ dangerous threequarters.
North Walsham started brightly and put YM under pressure during the opening minutes which resulted in them scoring a converted try when the game was only 7 minutes old.
However, YM started to get a grip on the game and went through a number of phases of good possession.
This sustained pressure from the forwards came to fruition with the ball being recycled through several phases before being grounded on two occasions at 15 and 23 minutes by captain and tight head Ben Hockley.
North Walsham broke through YM’s defence during the later stages of the first half to score their second, and last, try of the game
A further penalty from Barney Horsfield made the scores 17:14 at half time.
As the second half progressed, YM established themselves in the game against a tiring, and on occasion, frustrated North Walsham team.
This pressure resulted in two further YM tries, scored by Adam Sawyer and Ben Hockley, who completed his hat-trick and gained YM the bonus point.
Although all of YM's scores were from the forwards, credit must be given to how the back row and centres combined throughout the game with sequences of pin-point passes being taken at pace before spreading the ball to the wings.
Positions are tight at the top of the this league, but this victory shows the YM are still in the hunt and are determined to pursue their promotion challenge all the way.
