Ipswich YM Spoil Aldeburgh & Thopeness Rugby Fun Day

Although it was a splendid day to be at the seaside and to enjoy the carnival atmosphere of the Aldeburgh & Thorpeness Rugby Fun Day, it soon became apparent that YM would be short of players.

Luckily A&T were able to call on their reserves and we were given four players to make up a full team, and most importantly, a full front row.

Seeing the size of the A&T pack would lead you to think that uncontested would have been the safest option but time and time again, the fit YM pack bossed the scrum around.

There was a splendid play from our fly-half MotM who took the opportunity to display what he is capable of, in particular his pin-point kicking accuracy for both position and his 100% conversion rate.
But Barrie Alford was the first to score for YM with a pick and drive to smash his way through the A&T defence. This was repeated again for YM to be 0-14 up at half time.

Early in the second half our 10 went over which sealed the game as YM's pre-season fitness sessions started to pay dividends against a wilting A&T side.

The final score of 0-21 was a fair reflection of the number of attacking opportunities that each side had although A&T did have a reasonable amount of possession. However the majority of that possession was in their half.

Thanks to Aldeburgh and Thorpeness for hosting us and providing Ipswich YM with players so that we could have a great game of rugby.

Also special mention for the YM traveling support who offered tactical observations and provided the essential water supply on a hot day!
